What to Bring

Valuables

Patients are discouraged from bringing any irreplaceable personal items (such as photos) or items of value. Family, friends or guardians should take any jewelry home, since the patient is not allowed to wear jewelry on the acute unit. Do not bring money onto the unit. We ask that you comply with this, as Laurel Ridge is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

The units provide most personal hygiene items. These items include shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash and hair combs. The patient may bring their own items if they prefer. These items cannot include alcohol.

Personal Items

The patient will need three to four days of clothing while at Laurel Ridge. Please bring sports bras (underwire bras are not permitted), socks and underwear, comfortable clothes (without drawstrings), shoes without laces (laces will be removed).

We encourage all patients to practice positive grooming skills demonstrating respect for self and others. Therefore, the following are expectations for the units:

  • Please wear pants on the waist. No sagging pants or torn pants exposing undergarments.
  • No short cut shorts or skirts. All shorts and skirts should be no more than three inches above the knee.
  • No drug or alcohol logos on clothing or accessories.
  • Younger children (12 or younger) often need some security of their home environment, so they are welcome to bring one stuffed animal. The stuffed animal must be less than one foot in size and can be easily carried in one arm. The animal must be left in the bedroom during the day while the child engages in their programming.
